We are submitting here under an
interesting comparison between Pneumatic Shot
Blasting Process and Airless / Centrifugal
Shot Blasting Process for your study. The
comparison clearly establishes the technical
superiority of Airless Shot Blasting Process
and confirms that it is the most economical
process.
-
Centrifugal Shot Blasting
Process is also known as the Airless Shot
Blasting Process / Wheelabrator Process and
is highly energy efficient cleaning process and
specially recommended for the high volume blast
cleaning application. This process is highly
economical and gives the lowest cost if compared
with the Pneumatic Shot Blasting process.
-
The Shot Blasting
cleaning rate is the proportional to the flow
rate of shots thrown by throwing device like
nozzle in case of Pneumatic Shot Blasting
Process and Centrifugal Wheel in case of
Centrifugal Shot Blasting Process.
-
By 20 HP of air compressor,
the Pneumatic Shot Blasting Process
propels 300 kg. Per hour steel shots while
Centrifugal blast wheel with 20 HP can
propels 10500 Kg. Of steel shots per hour. As
such, the process is power efficient. In view of
this, we find that the centrifugal shot
blasting process is 30 times more power
efficient than pneumatic shot blasting
process.
-
The Nozzle size 9/16" dia of
pneumatic shot blasting process operating
by 80 HP compressor gives a profile of blast
pattern of 5" dia only whereas the blast pattern
achieved for centrifugal blast wheel is
40" long X 4" wide as depicted in the figure is
achieved by the 20 HP blast wheel motor. This
shows a much bigger and uniform pattern (160 sq.
inch by airless shot blasting machine and 20 sq.
inch by a pneumatic shot blasting machine) is
available by airless shot blasting machines.
Thus airless shot blasting machine is
better to deliver consistent blasting result
than pneumatic shot blasting machine.
Pneumatic shot blasting machines are better
for low production rates and for the internal
blast cleaning of pipes and intricate
components.
-
It is general false feeling
that the maintenance of centrifugal shot
blasting machines is on higher side in
comparison to pneumatic shot blasting
machines. This is misconception. Normally we
use to compare the maintenance cost of
propelling 300 kg. Per hour of shots by
pneumatic shot blasting process to 10500 kg.
Per hour of shots by centrifugal shot
blasting process which is not correct. We
should compare what will be maintenance cost of
pneumatic shot blasting process for
propelling 10500 kg. Per hour of shots.
-
In pneumatic shot blasting
process 300 kg. Of shots are propelled per
hour while in centrifugal shot blasting
process 10500 kg. of shots are propelled
resulting into lower cost and better finish.
